I really think it’s time to look into making lead sources permission-based or role-based, similar to how we manage permission groups. Right now, everyone has access to all source options, which leads to a lot of bad data. For example, we constantly see salespeople marking walk-ins as phone ups or selecting random campaigns. Sometimes to chase bonuses, sometimes just out of habit or confusion. Either way, it throws off our reporting in a big way. If we could limit what sources and descriptions show up based on someone’s role like BDC only seeing phone or Internet, and showroom sales only seeing walk-in options or prospecting options we’d have way more accurate reporting. It would also make the process smoother for the users since they’d only see what actually applies to them. Cleaner data helps all of us. From marketing to management to BDC to the sales floor. Just like we protect other parts of the system with roles and permissions, I think it’s time we do the same for source selection.
