Why real photos win
Trust factor – Buyers want to see the actual condition of the vehicle they’re considering. Stock images feel generic and can raise skepticism.
Transparency = more leads – Real photos answer unspoken questions (scratches, tires, interior wear), which reduces hesitation and increases inquiries.
Higher perceived value – Clean, well-shot real photos make the car feel “owned and cared for,” not just another listing.
Better engagement – Listings with real photos typically get more clicks, longer views, and more serious buyers.
When stock photos still have a place
Stock images aren’t useless—they’re just limited:
Brand-new units that just landed and haven’t been prepped yet
Placeholder while waiting on recon/detail
Rare builds where you want to show what it looks like equipped
But even then, they should be temporary.
What actually performs best (this is the sweet spot)
Top-performing listings usually do this:
Lead image = real hero shot of the actual vehicle
Full gallery = 15–30 real photos (exterior, interior, wheels, imperfections)
Optional = 1–2 stock images at the end to show features/colors in ideal lighting
Quick tip that makes a big difference
If you’re going to use real photos, don’t half-do it:
Good lighting (early morning / late afternoon)
Clean background
Consistent angles (front 3/4, rear 3/4, dash, seats, etc.)
Even average real photos will beat perfect stock photos—but great real photos absolutely dominate.

Thanks for flagging this, Ryan Ryczek — totally hear you. To help us narrow down what’s happening: where in DriveCentric are you seeing stock photos instead of the actual vehicle photos (CRM vehicle record, emails/texts, website listings, reports, etc.)? For the units showing stock images, do you already have real photos uploaded somewhere (in DriveCentric or another tool), or are you expecting DriveCentric to pull them from a specific source? And when real photos aren’t available, what would you want to happen — show nothing, keep stock as a fallback, or something else?

Shelby Parker Yes not immeditaly but everyhting we put on the website for sale gets actual photos so not sure when and how you pull but some will be real and most stock so would like to have the real with stock as a back but like said only reason they should be stock is if its pre sold unit that doesn't hit the website then we wouldnt do photos
