Taxes for out of state Cash deal
Steven Nguyen
Right now if we have an Out of State Cash deal, We are not collecting any out of state Sales Taxes or Registration fees since we would let the customer do that at the tag office. Currently this is the step to zero out the sales tax and registration.
Unfortunately as of right now, you are correct. There currently is not a feature to automatically do this.
Right now, you can zero it out directly on the deal:
Open the deal
Go to Manage Taxes and Fees
Enter the customer’s address (city, state, ZIP)
Set all tax fields to 0
Turn off any dealer fees (like license/registration) if they shouldn’t apply
However, this step takes time, because to zero out every line (30-50 line items) and then if you change anything on the desk screen, for example, change the rate, or add a warranty, the system auto correct the taxes and include them again. So now for those Cash out of state deals, you would have to repeat the zero out 30 line items again and again if you want to do ANY changes to the deal.
My request is a simple button under the Sales Tax that give us an option to zero out the taxes permanently for the deal even if we change anything on the deal, and it'll stay zero. It'll save a lot of time and frustration.

Thanks for writing this up, Steven Nguyen — totally hear you on how time-consuming (and frustrating) it is to zero out 30–50 line items only to have taxes re-populate after any change on the deal. This is really helpful context. I’m sharing this with the team so we can review the idea of a “lock/zero out taxes” option for out-of-state cash deals, and we’ll follow up if we need any additional details from your workflow.

Thanks for writing this up, Steven Nguyen — totally hear you on how frustrating and time-consuming it is to have to re-zero 30–50 line items every time the deal recalculates. This is really helpful context, and I’m sharing it with the team so we can look into a better way to “lock” taxes/fees at $0 for out-of-state cash deals. If we need any additional details to evaluate the best approach, I’ll follow up here.
