Retain Customer/Deal Numbers During Profile Merges

It would be extremely helpful if the Customer/Deal Number (located in the top-right corner of the customer profile) was retained when profiles are merged.
Currently, if the BDC sets an appointment on an internet-sourced profile but the customer is sold under a duplicate profile, the original Customer/Deal Number is lost during the merge IF we select the original source, not the duplicate, where the client was marked sold. While we can choose which profile source to keep, we cannot retain the source from one profile and the Customer/Deal Number from the other.
This creates additional work for the BDC Manager, as we have to go to the profile after delivery to change the source. If it stays that way, it can impact reporting accuracy. Retaining both Customer/Deal Numbers after a merge, would improve attribution, reporting, and workflow for both the BDC and sales teams.
