Manually Assign Salesperson on Duplicate Lead before Ignoring or Merging

When duplicates come in it would be nice to be able to assign a sales person to them before hitting the ignore button and having the sales person you manually entered stick and not be round robin'd to someone new. This has created a problem when assigning to new sales people when I already assigned them and the system is over riding my decision. Or it would be nice to mark a "duplicate" lead bad without having to hit the ignore button first or merge button first making it create a lead and assign a sales person

- Can you provide a specific example of when the current system of assigning sales people to duplicate leads has caused issues?
- What is your ideal workflow for handling duplicate leads, from the moment they come in to the moment they are assigned to a sales person?
- How often do you encounter this issue of the system overriding your manual assignment of sales people to duplicate leads?
